Mango Lassi

A Flavoured Yoghurt Smoothie

                              Lassi is the ‘ancient smoothie’ or ‘desi smoothie’ that originated in Punjab, India. It is perhaps the first smoothie that is made with yoghurt. With years, it has acquired a worldwide acceptance starting from Britain, its former colonies and recently in the US. This traditional Indian tropical drink is drunk year-round but is most popular during the torment of summer. Here is the recipe for the most ubiquitous lassi flavour now; mango.

INGREDIENTS

                  1 cup plain yoghurt
                  1/2 cup milk
                  1 cup chopped ripe mango or mango pulp
                  1-2 tablespoons sugar or adjust to taste
                  1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder
                   pistachios to garnish (optional)
                   saffron strands to garnish (optional)

INSTRUCTIONS 

                   Put mango and sugar into a blender and blend.

                   Now add yoghurt, milk and cardamom, blend everything until well combined.

                   Pour the mango lassi into serving glasses and chill before serving! You may garnish with pistachios, saffron strands for an extra edge!
